If I was implementing an ERP system, I would be more inclined to modify the ERP to match my business processes in the case that it would make a significant difference of results or accelerate the decision making process of my business in order to give me a competitive advantage. The drawbacks of this could possibly be that the modification of such process does not function as it was meant to or complicates even more the process thus making it of less effect and negatively affecting previous accomplishments and projects of the business.

When implementing an ERP system, you may be more inclined to modify the ERP to match your business processes if:

  • Your business processes are unique and cannot be easily mapped to the out-of-the-box functionality of the ERP system.
  • Your business has strict regulatory or compliance requirements that the ERP system does not currently meet.
  • Your business has specific industry-specific requirements that the ERP system does not currently support.

However, modifying an ERP system to match your business processes has several drawbacks:

  • It can be time-consuming and expensive to make the necessary changes, especially if the ERP system is complex or customized.
  • It can be difficult to ensure that the modified ERP system remains compatible with future updates or upgrades to the software.
  • It can be challenging to maintain the modified ERP system, as the customizations may need to be re-done each time the system is updated.
  • It can be difficult to troubleshoot and resolve issues with the ERP system if the modifications have been made.
  • It can be more expensive to maintain an ERP system that has been heavily modified.

So, it is important to weigh these factors before deciding to modify an ERP system to match your business processes.
